Postnatal Mental Health

For when we are feeling overwhelmed, disappointed and alone.

Early parenthood is a minefield to navigate.

Your own expectations can make this even harder! We have fantasies of “blooming” in pregnancy, having the birth of our choice, an overwhelming rush of mother love the instant our child is born and instinctively knowing what to do. Sadly, this is rarely all true, for some people none of it is and as we don’t really talk about it we can end up feeling overwhelmed, disappointed and alone.

There is no pre-requisite to have struggled getting or staying pregnant previously to receive our support, or to already be one of our clients or community. If you are struggling with your emotional wellbeing and your mental health up to a year after your pregnancy, or to process that time in your history, whether it’s, post-natal depression or birth trauma, or something else altogether we are here to help.

It is worth noting that we VERY often see people that have been diagnosed with or suspect they have postnatal depression, when actually we would assess this as very normal new mum overwhelm. Somehow, you are left believing that you are failing at something that everybody is struggling with and is a normal and necessary part of the process. For this reason, we would always recommend having positive and regular contact with other mums, where you can offload, normalise and support each other, we provide spaces for you to do this and there are many more available.

You can explore your options during an initial consultation, which include; counselling, and or join ‘muma matters’.

We have also set up Muma Natter an online facebook group where anyone in our community can connect, communicate and support each other You can view and join the group here.
